Isobutyl formate
Isobutyl formate (2-methylpropyl methanoate) is a clear, colorless, flammable C4 alkyl ester with the chemical formula C5H10O2. Isobutyl formate has limited solubility in water but is miscible with most organic solvents. It has many uses because of its sweet, raspberry-like, rum-like, fruity, and ethereal odor. Isobutyl formate is a key ingredient used by cosmetologists because of its pleasant fragrance. It is also commonly used as a specialty solvent for dyes, lacquers, adhesives, paint, inks, and cleansing agents.
